Apart from the risk of distorting the barrel locally I suspect it would result in significant cosmetic damage to its outer surface. I recall seeing a post in which someone recommended cutting the barrel of the TC-E15ED using a cutting disc mounted in a vertical pillar drill with the disc spinning at high speed at the desired height above the drill table.
With that method there is IMHO a significant risk of the cutting disk snatching in the cut and resulting in damage to the lens or in personal injury. Therefore unless you have access to someone who can do the required machining for you I would recommend careful cutting by hand with a hacksaw.

There is definitely some "play" in the quick-connect, so the TC's optical axis is not always perfectly aligned with the FZ50's.
I did some testing, comparing images with quick-connect vs. By the way, just in case it's not clear, I'm not the inventor of the quick-connect solution, just a happy customer. I'm sorry that I'm unable to provide a link to the original post by Tom K but I feel sure you could use the same method to cut the barrel of the TC-E15ED to the required length. I trust that you will find the above information helpful. I also like the TCON17 as it is so light you can hang it off the end of th FZ50 without loading down the manual zoom with weight We dig into the detail The Nikon Z mm F2.
